Reuse Aotearoa’s submission to the Economic Development, Science and Innovation Parliamentary Select Committee on the Consumer Guarantees (Right to Repair) Amendment Bill. This was a Member’s Bill (of Marama Davidson of the Green Party). It proposed to make changes to the Consumer Guarantees Act in order to introduce some elements of a right to repair in Aotearoa NZ.
Our submission in a nutshell
We strongly supported the proposed legislation and urged the committee to recommend to the House that it be passed into law because repair is critical for product reuse, and reusing saves waste, boosts local businesses, and creates local jobs offering meaningful, skilled work.
- We suggested the select committee recommend some changes be made to the Bill to make it even more effective.
