Written evidence to support Takeaway Throwaways’ petition, submitted on 28 June 2022 to Parliament’s Environment Select Committee, along with an oral submission.
In 2022, Takeaway Throwaways submitted a petition, which received more than 10,000 signatures from the public, calling on the Government to ban single-use disposable food and drink serviceware, and use waste legislation and targeted investment to require and support the implementation of accessible, reusable alternatives instead. This document presents the written evidence submitted to Parliament’s Environment Select Committee in support of the petition. It outlines:
- the reasons why single-use serviceware should be banned
- how reuse systems can help, and
- the specific legislative, regulatory & policy actions Takeaway Throwaways would like the Government to take (supported by a table of examples of such actions taken by overseas Governments).
